On Tuesday, December 19, 2006, the Cornwall Middle School held a sensational concert, a tribute to the glorious winter season, in the school’s auditorium. The concert featured the fantastic 7th and 8th Grade Select Chorus, which was led by music teacher Mrs. Moriarty and accompanied by Valerie Ransbottom, another school music teacher, on the piano, and 8th Grade student Steven Fowler, who added an acoustic guitar to the ensemble.

The school band performed next, directed by Mr. Steve Kessler, whose invigorating, powerful music rumbled throughout the entire school. Some 5th and 6th Graders were even fortunate enough to play in the 7th and 8th Grade Band, such as John Heins.

Up next came the enormous 7th and 8th Grade Chorus, which included numerous exquisite soloists, instructed by Mrs. Ransbottom. The second instrumental group to perform was the small and intimate, yet nevertheless delightful, 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra, which is now directed by newcomer Mr. Giorgio. Based on their performance, it was obvious that Mr. Giorgio was doing an exceptional job already.

The final group to perform was the sharp, exciting Jazz Band, also presented by Mr. Kessler. In his trademark style, Mr. Kessler consistently selected players at random to perform an improvised solo, which they responded to excellently. It was the perfect way to wrap up a phenomenal night.
