General News: Library Launches Early Literacy iPad Lab

Ten Mini Apple iPads® loaded with early literacy apps appropriate for children are now available for use in the library. The iPads, software and peripheral hardware and charging cart were purchased by the library with a grant received by Cornwall Public Library Foundation from the Verizon Wireless Foundation.
“We have Mini iPads containing games and activities geared toward pre-schoolers, elementary age children and teens,” said Karen LaRocca-Fels, Library Director. “Our young patrons are enjoying having this technology available to them at their library. We feel it is vital to stay current with trends in technology, specifically when there is an opportunity to help build the literacy skills of our children. We’re grateful to the Cornwall Public Library Foundation and the Verizon Wireless Foundation for their support of this exciting project.”
To borrow an iPad for a 60-minute period, patrons under the age of 11 are required to have their parent/guardian sign an iPad Lending Agreement form and the parent/guardian’s library card must be in good standing. Children ages 11-17 must also have a signed parent/guardian signed iPad Lending Agreement on file, and their own library card must be in good standing. The iPads are to be used within the library building exclusively. At the conclusion of a session, all information is wiped clean and cannot be retrieved.
