The 2nd Annual Locavore Challenge
The 2nd Annual Locavore Challenge
September 11, 2013

CORNWALL, NY -- The Cornwall Community Co-op invites anyone who would like to become a Locavore and participate with us in the Locavore Challenge for the month of September. To the best of our ability, we will eat food grown, raised or caught within 100 miles of Cornwall for the entire month. The Co-op will have information about the Locavore Challenge at the Co-op table at every Farmers Market. Stop by and get your Locavore Card punched and questions answered.

Let’s have some fun and promote health within Cornwall by eating locally all month long!

Food Sources include:

  • Community and start-your-own gardens.
  • Farmers markets, U-Pick farms, and roadside stands.
  • Local produce and locally produced foods at  grocery stores.

Why should you become a Locavore with us now?

  • Food that is transported long distances has a large carbon footprint and is not as fresh. Fresh food is healthier!
  • Eating locally helps support local farmers and the local economy.
  • Free participation in all workshops and events throughout the “challenge”.

A MONTH OF FUN EVENTS AND HEALTH!

  • Sept 7    Healthy Lunchbox demo at the Market

Each Locavore will regulate themselves based on the honor system:

  • Check-in regularly on the Locavore Challenge Facebook page: www.facebook.com/cornwall.locavores. Tell us how you are doing. Leave recipes and tips.
  • Pick up a Punch Card at the Co-op Table when you are at the Farmers Market and get your card punched each Wed and Sat in September when you buy locally at the Farmers Market. Six punches (1 punch for each Wed and Sat Market before the Challenge Dinner) will earn a prize from your Cornwall Community Co-op.
