At or about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 18th, Storm King Engine Company No. 2, Cornwall-on-Hudson Police and Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance Corps (COVAC) were all notified that a male paddle boarder may possibly be in need of assistance after having fallen from his board in the Hudson in the area of Donahue Memorial Riverfront Park.

All agencies, including Cornwall Town Police, responded and set up a rescue "Command Post" at the Cornwall Yacht Club to coordinate operations.

City of Newburgh Fire Department, West Point Fire Department and the Fort Montgomery Fire Department all activated their river rescue units so as to assist and dispatched boats to the scene.

The call originated when the adult male paddle boarder's mother, who was watching from shore, observed her son, who was wearing a life vest, fall from the board into the water. The mother, a Cornwall resident, called authorities after she lost sight of her son floating downstream and out of sight around the curve toward West Point, believing he may have been in need of assistance.

Storm King Engine Company Chief Robby Vought stated the Assistant Chief and himself, along with their rescue and brush truck responded.

COVAC was in the river first to assist. Storm King Engine Company followed and SKFE Lt. Chatfield, and another SKFE Firefighter also responded.

The paddle-boarder, when found, was back up on his board and paddling north toward Cornwall Landing

Lt. Chatield and the other SKFE Firefighters took the paddle-boarder into the boat and textured him to shore at the Cornwall Yacht Club dock where he was examined by COVAC personnel.

Per Chief Vought, "It was a nice quick call, everybody was safe, and all the emergency responders are just happy everything worked out well."
