| Michael Summerfield announces candidacy for Cornwall Town Board |

Michael Summerfield, a Cornwall resident since 2005, has announced his candidacy as a Democrat for the Cornwall Town Board in the coming election in November 2013 and has received the endorsement of the Democratic Party.
"The Town of Cornwall has many important issues before it regarding development of large tracts of land, faltering local institutions, budget and fiscal concerns at the local, school district and County levels. As demonstrated by recent Town Board meetings, there is a clear lack of strategic direction, analytical ability or the ability to articulate the Cornwall community identity. We are beset by outsiders seeking to profit from the Town's indecision and lack of capacity to analyze proposals thoroughly and, therefore, to make the best decisions for the future of our community. The devotion and efforts of elected officials in past decades is not enough anymore; now is the time to look to new talent to carry the torch for Cornwall into the future. Change is upon Cornwall and I look forward to meeting it full-on and well-prepared. My goal is to serve the real long term interests of the town and to make the actions and deliberations of the board transparent with an emphasis on two way communication with the community.
I believe my professional career experiences bring a skill set that will provide immense value to the community of Cornwall: executive level sales and marketing, business development with internet start-ups in media and technology, management of multi-billion dollar investment portfolios and balance sheets as well as municipal credit analysis. I earned a bachelors degree from the University of Michigan in Public Administration and Economics. I have done post-graduate study in Economics [Indiana University / Purdue University] and International Marketing [University of Connecticut Stern School of Business]. "
Mr. Summerfield plans to use his communication skills and partnership management skills to enable a more productive dialogue at Town meetings, foster collaboration & partnerships with community groups and local businesses as well as other communities, county and State organizations and use his extensive financial background to address Cornwall's emerging and ongoing fiscal challenges.
Mr. Summerfield, age 56, has served as Club Secretary for the Cornwall Lions the past two years and will continue to serve as 2nd Vice President in the coming year. Mr. Summerfield resides in the Town of Cornwall with his wife Monique, a Sales Executive with Herman Miller Inc. and two daughters Taylor and Bailey who attend Cornwall High School.
