An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at 2:00 pm at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Cornwall to honor Cornwall Boy Scout Troop 118’s newest Eagle Scouts, Stephen Allen, Sam Corby and Andrew Stein.

Assemblyman James Skoufis, Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois, County Legislator Chris Eachus, Cornwall Deputy Supervisor Mary Beth Greene-Krafft, Blooming Grove Deputy Supervisor Brandon Neilsen and Hudson Valley Council President Michael Caporlingua were in attendance and made presentations to each of the Eagle Scouts.

Congratulatory messages were received from President and Mrs. Obama, Senator Charles Schumer, Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, Governor Andrew Cuomo, State Senator William Larkin and County Executive Edward Diana.

For every 100 boys who join a Boy Scout troop:
Twelve will have their first contact with a church or synagogue.
Five will earn their religious emblem.
Three will enter the clergy or a religious vocation.
Eighteen will develop hobbies that will last through their adult life.
Eight will enter a career that was learned through the merit badge system.
One will use his Scout skills to save the life of another.
Two will use their Scout skills to save their own life.
Twenty-one will become adult Scouting volunteers.
Five will become Eagle Scouts

To achieve the rank of Eagle, a Scout must earn a total of 21 merit badges. Additionally, while a Life Scout, the Eagle Candidate must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any organization outside of Scouting. The project must be approved by the Scoutmaster, the Troop’s Committee, and by the local District.

Stephen is the son of the Jerilyn and Kevin Allen of Salisbury Mills. He is a junior at Washingtonville High School. Stephen has previously served Troop 118 as a Patrol Leader. He is currently the Senior Patrol Leader. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Stephen beautified the front garden and made a newly built dog park for the Hudson Valley SPCA.

Sam is the son of the Karen and Steve of Cornwall. He is a junior at Cornwall Central High School. Sam has previously served Troop 118 as an Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader. He is currently the Troop's Scribe. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Sam created an equipment storage area for the Cornwall Little League.

Andrew is the son of Carol Stein of Cornwall and Dr. Thomas Stein, also of Cornwall. He is a junior at Cornwall Central High School. Andrew has previously served Troop 118 as an Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader. He is currently the Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Andrew created a memorial park for the Town of Cornwall Little League.

Troop 118 is chartered by the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Cornwall. Since it’s rechartering in 1979, Troop 118 has had 61 Scouts ascend to the rank of Eagle.
