Goshen – Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana is pleased to announce the newest officers of the Orange County Human Rights Commission. Fred Cook of Washingtonville will serve as the Commission’s Chairperson. Daniel McMann, of Goshen, is 1st Vice Chair and Kara Dorsey, of Cornwall, is 2nd Vice Chair. These Commissioners have agreed to expand their volunteer service as commissioners and take on leadership roles as the Commission works to protect the human rights needs of Orange County residents. Nolly Climes served as Commission Chair until his term ended in 2013.

“I appreciate the time, talent, and expertise that each of our Human Rights Commissioners volunteers in service to the people of Orange County and the preservation of human rights for all who live and work here,” said County Executive Diana. “As officers of the Commission, Fred, Daniel, and Kara have shown their commitment to making a difference for our residents. My thanks to Nolly for ably leading the Commission for the past several years and agreeing to stay involved as a Commissioner,” added Diana.

Fred Cook, a 2008 Orange County Human Rights Commission award winner, recently retired from IBM and is a former Washingtonville School Board member. He currently serves on the Orange AHRC Board of Directors as well.

Daniel McMann is a life-long resident of Orange County. He was first appointed to the Human Rights Commission in 2010. While on the commission he has served as Co-Chair of the 17th and 18th annual Orange County Human Rights Awards Dinners. Daniel is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Museum Village and past member of the Board of Directors of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce.

Long-time Orange County resident, Kara Dorsey is past President of the Board of Directors of Independent Living, Inc., currently serves as Secretary for Independent Home Care, Inc. and has been a member of the Orange County Human Rights Commission since January 2010. In 2006, Kara was the recipient of the Tribute to Women of Achievement of Orange County, Bobbie A. Lahey Memorial Award for Volunteerism and is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Orange.

Commissioners are appointed by the County Executive and receive Legislative approval. Officers are elected by the 12-member Commission.

The Human Rights Commission will be hosting the 18th annual award dinner at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11 at The Fountains of Wallkill, 40 Sands Road, Middletown. McMann and Dorsey are co-chairing the event. Dinner tickets are $46 and reservations are required.
