General News: Village Trustees Hold Monthly Meeting

February 13, 2013

By Joseph Oliveto

The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Board of Trustees met at Village Hall on Monday night, February 11, for the monthly work session.

During the meeting, Mayor Coyne commended the Department of Public Works for their handling of the recent snow storm. Superintendent of Public Works David Halvorsen commented on the status of a garbage truck which requires work. It was estimated that it would cost between $70,000 and $75,000 to replace the body. Mr. Halvorsen has been in contact with Sanitation Equipment Corporation of Paramus, NJ, who will instead be able to refurbish the body for $20,000 to $25,000.

Mr. Halvorsen also stated that the county has been distributing letters indicating that Conrwall-on-Hudson offers free electronics recycling. The Board agreed that it needs to be clarified that this service is offered to village residents only.

Regarding the DPW building litigatin, Mayor Coyne stated that “We are moving forward with that” and said “I believe we’ll have something to report on at the business meeting.”

The board discussed a measures proposed by Assemblyman Kearns to insure that lending institutions which foreclose on properties remain responsible for the security of those properties. Although this has not been a major problem in the area, it remains an important issue.
