The Cornwall Co-op and Farmer’s Market held it’s “End of the Locavore Challenge” dinner at Hudson Street Cafe on Sunday, September 9th. The dinner was the final event of the Locavore Challenge that the Co-op promoted in August.

The Locavore Challenge dared participants to limit their diet only to food grown, raised, or caught within 100 miles of Cornwall in order to support local farmers and the local economy. The challenge also promoted healthier eating as local produce has less distance to travel from farmer to consumer and retains more of it’s nutrients.

Donna Hammond from Hudson Street Cafe created the dishes for the dinner which featured vegetables and fruits from several local farms. As for the drinks it was BYOB and guests were given wine chillers for their tables. The restaurant was full by 6:30 p.m. as almost all reserved tickets were sold.

The appetizers included tomatoes from Jones Farm, cheese from Edgwick Farm and Coyote Kitchen Condiments. The main course included Double Corn Polenta from Blooming Hill Farm and Donahue Farm crispy fall squashes and pumpkins. The dessert was Bellvale Creamery Ice Cream with Locust Grove peaches, Roe Orchard Honey and goat milk caramel sauce.

Local farms and businesses that contributed to the dinner include Bellvale Creamery, Blooming Hill Farm, Continental Farm, Coyote Kitchen, Donahue Farm, Edgwick farm, Jones Farm, Locust Grove, Panzarella’s, Roe’s Orchard and Hudson Street Cafe.

The Cornwall Co-op's next event will be a Harvest Party, October 28, 2012.
