Ronda Barber, owner of Step By Step Dance Studio and Step It up Dance Productions, located in Cornwall NY will be traveling to London with her troupe who will perform at the 2012 London Invitational. This invitational is hosted by The American Association of Performing Arts Educators (AAPAE) and coincides with the 2012 Olympics. The dance students will be performing at The Warwick Castle, one of the oldest castles in the world and the Island Garden which lies on the north bank of the River Thames. Performances will take place on the 4th and 5th of August.

The dance troupe pictured consists of graduating seniors: Tiffany Henriksen, Nicole Gioia and Celine Trella and students Katie Ferrism, Klayton Kelly, Konnor Kelly, Julianne Lopez, Erin Mullan, Montana Nogrady, Amanda Sarchino, Julia Smith, and Monica Trella,

Over the years Step By Step Dance Studio has performed at many prestigious locations, which include Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., as well as other events. I’m sure this must be an exciting time for these young dancers to be a part of the 2012 Olympic celebrations going on throughout the city of London. This moment is an accumulation of many years of hard work and dedication on the part of Ronda Barber, who founded Step By Step Dance School of Cornwall, NY in 1994. As a parent of one of the many dedicated dancers who will be dancing this week in London, I can say that each year the studio has made enormous progress in several aspects which have enabled this opportunity for the girls to dance in this once in a lifetime experience.

Step By Step will bring their brand of dance to the Warwick Castle stage. The London performances will feature several styles of dance: including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and modern. Each dance is choreographed by one of the teachers who are Ronda Barber, Veronica Nogrady, Monica Trella, Stephanie Thomas, and Andrea Cotter. One of my favorites is the modern dance piece, choreographed by Ronda Barber, titled “Out of District 11,” which I’m sure will stand out amongst the many performances by the other 120 dance companies from the U.S.A. that will be performing during these events

The Warwick Castle was constructed nearly a thousand years ago. It is also a tourist destination featuring Jousting, fencing and equestrian events, and the home to the largest Trebuchet (catapult) in the world. Now the dancers from Cornwall, New York will be a small part of its long history.

The group will be leaving Tuesday, July 31st and will be returning Tuesday, August 7th. In between the performances, the troupe and their families will take a tour of London.

One other note: Cornwall NY, established in 1788, can trace its roots directly back to Cornwall, England, which is not far from where the girls are performing.

Comments:

Well, Cornwall was legally established as "New Cornwall" in 1763; the '88 was just a reorganization under the US Constitution. They were still using the "New" for the first couple of census. And Cornwall in England is a county and a Duchy. It's a bit far out of town from London.
