General News: Two Benefit Walks This Sunday

April 18, 2012

Get your exercise this Sunday, April 22, and help support good causes in two sponsored walk/runs – one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Double Dash

Get out your running shoes for the first annual Double Dash at the Newburgh Waterfront, which takes off at 9 am (registration gets underway at 8 am). The Double Dash is brought to you by St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital and benefits its Center for Cardiac Care. The race also puts a spotlight on physical fitness, which can help fight heart disease and obesity. It’s a competitive 10k road race and non- competitive 5k run/walk. Registration is $25 pre- event and $30 day of event. Visit www.doubledash.com
for more details.

Walk for Housing

After the Double Dash – and perhaps a light lunch – you can head over to the Habitat for Humanity headquarters at 125 Washington St. where starting at 1:30 pm you can register for the 13th Annual Walk for Housing. The 5K walk begins at 2pm and will pass several completed and in process Habitat Homes. Walkers will also be able to take in panoramic views of the Hudson River through the Heights Neighborhood. The day will culminate with the dedication of the group’s 54th House at 44 East Parmenter Street. This house is sponsored by the employees of Gap, Inc.

Habitat encourages folks to form teams and to set fundraising goals. Visit the website for more ideas about how to be part of the Walk for Housing.
