Cornwall Police Sgt. Philip Sinagra has resigned from the department after 21 years in the Cornwall police department, saying in his letter to the town board that he plans to “pursue a career in emergency medical services.”

Throughout his time on the Cornwall police force, Sgt. Sinagra handled a number of cases, including the 16-month investigation into the fire that destroyed the Little League shed in 2006 andt led to the arrest of two teenagers. Last year he was recognized by Cornwall Police Chief Todd Hazard with a Life Saving Award for his actions on a medical call.

Sinagra’s retirement, which took effect today, was recognized by the town board on Monday evening.
