Halloween had an extended celebration this year, thanks to the rare late October snowstorm that led to its cancellation in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, along with the postponement of the annual Lion’s Club window painting contest for children.

This Saturday, five days after Halloween, children came out to the businesses on Main Street and Hudson Street to paint their scenes on the windows once again.

And as darkness fell, the Corn House of Horrors lit up Duncan Avenue. Visitors to the Corn House of Horrors this year got a chance to see the evil Candy Corn celebrate her birthday – and scare the wits out of her guests.

One mother who took her children to the Corn House of Horrors commented that at the end of the day, Halloween worked out quite well for them. Hilary Vallet said her children went trick-or-treating in New Windsor on Monday, Halloween, then went out again in the village on Wednesday for the rescheduled trick-or-treating. They were still celebrating on Saturday and their only regret was the cancellation of the Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School Halloween parade, a much-loved tradition for parents, teachers and students alike at the school.
