General News: Progress in Power Restoration

November 02, 2011

Power returned to many Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson residents late Tuesday afternoon as Central Hudson worked to restore the lines damaged in Saturday’s snowstorm. Spokesman John Maserjian said at 4 pm, that about 1800 customers in Cornwall and another 770 in the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson still did not have their electricity. Others celebrated as the power came back on after three days in the dark.

In the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson, residents dealt with the postponement of Halloween trick-or-treating until Wednesday, November 2. Producers of the Corn House of Horrors on Duncan Avenue made plans to re-stage their scary scene on Saturday, November 5 from 6 to 8:30 pm. Margaret Quinn wrote that “Snowmageddon 2011 may have temporarily knocked out our power, but the Corn House of Horrors will prevail.”

Mayor Brendan Coyne said that he hopes that residents understand that he postponed trick-or-treating for safety reasons, adding that he will have lots of candy on hand at his Homeland area home on Wednesday evening.

Comments:

Displeased with Central Hudson's lethargy. I'm on Idlewild Park Dr., and half the street has power but the other half- where I live- does not. Had they bothered making their way to the cul-de-sac they would have seen the tree blocking the road that took a line down with it. For shame.
