General News: Bee Exhibit In Person and Online

Here’s a new word for you: Anthophila. It’s a word that refers to the superfamily of bees that includes some 20,000 species of the nectar-loving insect. You can learn everything about Antrophila that you can possibly digest in an hour by visiting the new exhibit at the Wildlife Education Center of the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum – or by going online now to visit a site created by Louise Lynch.

Lynch is the curator of the museum’s World of Bees exhibit and she created the companion site to showcase some of the educational exhibits that she created at the museum – the bigger-than-life honeycomb that young children can climb inside and a detailed look at how honey bees manufacture honey.

The exhibit is designed to teach young children, ages3 to 8, about bee diversity and conservation. It can also be fun and informative for adults, too, Lynch writes on her website.

You can visit apoidea.lifedesks.org/node/1749 online and when you get there, you will find an easy-to-read guide to the World of Bees. The public can visit the exhibit at the nature museum Friday-Sunday from 12 noon to 4p. Visit www.hhnaturemuseum.org for more information and to find out how you can support their efforts, including the upcoming Champagne Brunch in November.
