The new Storm King Hike & Bike provided a break from the high-drama budget ceiling negotiations in Washington for U.S. Representative Nan Hayworth (R-19th District) who went for a stroll along it Sunday morning.

Hayworth joined Cornwall-on-Hudson Trustees Andrew Argenio and Barbara Gosda to walk along the portion of Route 218 that is closed every Sunday for eight weeks during the summer to allow hikers, walkers and bikers to enjoy the views of the Hudson River along the twisting route. The nearly four-mile long closure from the village down to the gates of the U.S. Military Academy in the town of Highlands started this summer.

Trustee Argenio planned to have a group of local elected officials walk the road together on Sunday in a modified grand opening. With high humidity and high temperatures forecast, only Hayworth was on hand at 11 am for the ceremonial stroll.

“This is a great way to enjoy the beauty we have here,” Hayworth said before setting off. “Hiking and biking is so healthy.”

According to Trustee Gosda, some 650 people have enjoyed the Hike & Bike experience during the first two Sundays. Within a half-hour after the gates closed the road to vehicles on Sunday, more than two dozen bicyclists and walkers, some pushing strollers, had started the ascent to the high point, where the views up and down the Hudson are amazing.

Comments:

It was great to get support from a public offical of her caliber.

Just curious: when Congresswoman Networth got to the overlook, did she toss the country over the cliff?
