The village mayor and trustees are expected to change the parking rules at the Cornwall-on-Hudson Elementary School after trustee Mark Edsall and police chief Charles Williams met with the Cornwall Schools superintendent Tim Rehm.
Edsall told the trustees at their monthly meeting on Monday that it was clear from their discussion with Rehm that parking is a problem between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 9 a.m. and again from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Mayor Moulton pointed out that the parking spaces were created to benefit the public, whose interests must also be taken into account. “The primary goal of a change,” Moulton said, “is to allow the general public the use of their property while providing a safe venue to drop off.”
The village board takes up the issue in response to a petition signed by 38 people asking for the change.
Mayor Moulton also noted that the village has received three proposals for a survey of traffic flow and parking in that area, a recommendation made earlier this year by the Village’s Master Plan Committee.
