From the Orange County Arts Council

On Sunday, May 1, Orange County dance was on display in An Afternoon of Dance at the Seligmann Estate in Sugar Loaf. The event was hosted by the Orange County Arts Council and brought together dance companies and dance studios for an afternoon exhibition of the talents within Orange County. Participants included: The Moving Company Modern Dance Center of Warwick; Step It Up Dance Productions of Cornwall; Hudson Valley Conservatory of Walden; M’Lanie Hunter Dance of Chester; HUGE Cup of Warwick; American Youth Dance Academy of Salisbury Mills; and Volute Movement of Campbell Hall.

The purpose of the event was to create an environment centered on the need for choreographers to present original work in a safe, non-competitive space and a need for the community to experience dance as an art form. The performance presented choreographers with an opportunity to showcase a finished piece or a work in progress.

In addition, attendees enjoyed a beautiful spring day at the Seligmann Estate and snacks and refreshments from Goldberg’s Deli in Chester and Primas Deli in Montgomery. The event received sponsorship from PQ Management and all donations went toward the Orange County Arts Council Programming Fund.

The Orange County Arts Council hopes to make this an annual event and is looking forward to working more closely with the dance community.
