General News: Village Fire Dept. to Host Parade in 2012

A major firefighters’ parade and week of festivities is coming to the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson in September 2012 and members of Storm King Fire Engine Company #2 on Friday unveiled their plans for the big event.
Each year the Orange County Volunteer Firemen’s Association holds its convention in a different town or village. In 2012, SKFE’s Matt Clancy will serve as president of the association and work with event co-chairs Jeff Armitage and Michael Trainor to ensure the success of a weeklong series of activities that culminate on September 22nd with a parade from the town through the village down to Donahue Memorial Park.
SKFE Chief Jeff Armitage reviewed the detailed plans already in place during Friday’s meeting with representatives of the village, town and county. The weeklong convention starts with a church service at the fire house on Sunday, September 16th and features a concert on Tuesday at the bandstand and a Fun Night at the riverfront on Thursday.
The firefighters parade will step off on Saturday, September 22 from Cornwall Middle School, continue to Veteran’s Way then make their way through the village to the riverfront where the entire community is invited to join in the festivities.
The last time the fire company has hosted the OCVFA convention was in 1990. It has been the host six times since the tradition began in 1921.
