General News: County Offers Foreclosure Workshop

January 20, 2011

From the Orange County Executive's Office

County Executive Edward A. Diana and Director of Community Development Thomas K. Lane announce a foreclosure workshop series to be hosted by Orange County, in conjunction with the Orange County Rural Development Advisory Corporation (RDAC), to assist Orange County homeowners who are facing foreclosure.

January’s workshop will be held by appointment only at the Orange-Ulster BOCES, 53 Gibson Road in Goshen, on Friday, January 28 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm for those homeowners holding mortgages with HSBC, and then on Saturday, January 29 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for those homeowners holding loans with GMAC. Registration is required to receive an appointment.

“I sincerely hope Orange County homeowners take advantage of this workshop and meet their bank representatives in person to discuss loan modifications,” said County Executive Diana.

To participate in the workshop, homeowners must register by calling RDAC at (845) 524-4663, extension 21, provide the name of their bank, and an appointment time will be scheduled.  Those who arrive at their appointed time without the required paperwork listed below may be turned away. Please note there will be no photocopier at the workshop site.

Homeowners are required to bring copies of the following documents:
Recent utility bills;
Recent mortgage statements and/or correspondence from your mortgage lender;
Last 4 consecutive pay stubs or income documentation for all employment, for all members in the household;
Two most recent bank account statements for all bank accounts; and,
Completed signed tax returns for 2008 and 2009.

Director Lane said, “Homeowners and banks frequently blame each other for missing documentation and delays in obtaining assistance to prevent foreclosure. These workshops will give all parties an opportunity to obtain needed documentation, and clarify what is needed to modify their loan."
