Cornwall Part of Race to the Top Grant

The Cornwall Central School District’s portion of the federal Race to the Top grant will be $55,000 over four years, according to Michael Brooks, the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum. New York was awarded the grant totaling nearly $700 million in late August.

Brooks told the school board on Monday night that the money will be used to revise the curriculum for grades K-12 to create a state-wide curriculum, train teachers and to develop an assessment and evaluation system for students, teachers and administrators. Locally, the school district will appoint a team to oversee the program and will likely invest in new materials, among other details that still need to be determined, he said.
