Twenty-two girls waited anxiously, as the crowd filed into the Walter Reade, Jr. Theatre. It was Friday, July 2nd and after a productive week of dancing, singing and rehearsals we were all ready for the show. As the audience sat in their seats, the girls all packed into the wings. We held hands, as the stage manager whispered for us to stay back out of the audience’s sight.

Before the show began, I felt a need to reflect upon the past week of fun, friends and above all, Glee. I could remember the first day of camp. We were all timid and slightly on edge, but before we knew it, we had all become true blue friends. We danced and sang our way through the week and girls from the ages ten through sixteen all bonded. We helped each other in ways that were unimaginable. Even the girls that were the most shy came out of their shells to become part of our diverse family. The choreographer, musical director, dance and vocal captains helped us sharpen our skills and get ready for our final performance. By the time the show had come around we couldn’t believe the week was already over. Even I was stunned to hear the announcer’s voice proclaim,

“Welcome to the Cornwall gleeClub production of “Girls Just Wanna have Fun”. This show is presented by Riverside Theatre Arts, so please sit back and enjoy the show.”

Our hearts were pounding, as we stepped onto the stage. The “Girls Medley” sounded in our ears. We performed our hearts out. The whole performance lifted the spirits of both the gleeGirls and the audience. We left the theatre 60 minutes later with the greatest feeling of self accomplishment that we were all simply beaming. We cannot wait for next year’s summer camp!
