General News: Jazz Series to Present 17 Acts

June 21, 2010

Visitors and residents of the area will have lots of jazz to listen to this summer if they go down to the Newburgh waterfront on Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, starting July 1st.  That's when the 4th Annual Newburgh Jazz Series will be presenting 17 different jazz performances, from the Chiku Awali African Dancers and Drummers to the smooth jazz of the Willis Wilson Quintet.

The Newburgh Jazz Series is organized by Ferry Godmother Productions Executive Producer, Aquanetta Wright, who got her name because she used to serenade commuters as they debarked from the Beacon-Newburgh ferry at the waterfront.

Wright is also looking for volunteers to help set up the stage area who are physically fit and available from 9 to 11 am on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays through July and August.  A person is also needed to staff the information booth.
