Nine months after opening the Littman Cancer Center at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, officials unveiled a new infusion suite on Thursday in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by hospital administrators and doctors, community leaders and cancer survivors.

The 3,500 square foot Infusion Suite is a completely renovated portion of the second floor of the former Cornwall hospital and offers 10 infusion chairs and a treatment bed. The suites were designed to provide privacy to patients and friends or family who may accompany them during their infusion sessions. Each suite has a television as well.

The new Infusion Suite is an important new element in the cancer care program now available at the center. Last September, the Littman Cancer Center opened its extensive radiation oncology services, which are backed by patient navigation and support services for patients.

Jane Livingston, the director of Marketing and Communications for St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital notes that the Infusion Suite and the radiation oncology services were created for cancer patients by those who’ve been touched by the disease, with input from the community of cancer patients and survivors, health care providers, hospital employees and faith-based community members, with a focus on addressing the needs of the whole patient.

Plans for the cancer center also include a Gathering Place, where patients and families can connect with each other and find support services, and a meditative garden called Hollie’s Garden in memory of Hollie Atzrott, the wife of SLCH president and CEO Allan Atzrott, who lost her battle against breast cancer earlier this year.
