General News: This Week in Lacrosse

May 20, 2010

From Dina Clohessy

7th & 8th Grade Girls

The 7th & 8th grade girls showed tremendous spirit when they battled West Point at the middle school on May 11.

Strong offensive play by Julia Kerr who scored 4 goals and Fiona Durkin who scored 2 helped keep Cornwall in the game. Rose Foody, Hannah Colson, Samantha Fowler and Nicole Milano made an outstanding effort. Goal keeper Jacqueline Hogan made some impressive saves and the game ended with a score of West Point 7, Cornwall 6

5th & 6th Grade Boys
The boys 5th & 6th grade team had a double header this weekend. Multiple goals were scored by Richard Thorpe and Jose Ramos. Ian Anderson and Eric Cabrera scored their 1st goals of the season. Excellent defense was played by Dominick Fayo, Jack Ryan & Steele Boyton. Mid-fielders has a strong game with excellent passing. Alexander Velez & Trisan Norton keep Cornwall in the game with a combined 39 saves. They came out the weekend with 1 loss & 1 Tie. The next game is Friday night 6pm at home.

7th & 6th Grade Boys
The boys 7th/8th grade White Squad has put together a nice string of wins. They traveled to Highland on May 8th and picked up a victory against a physical team. Our midfielders and attackmen played a terrific game, particularly Brandon Fienco, John Roth and Ryan Donovan.

This past Sunday, the team had their first home game against KALA (Kingston Area Lacrosse Association). Once again, the boys picked up a 7-4 win. Great hussle was a key factor and Jesse DeTeresa, Matt Moran and Steven Fox had impressive games. We'll look to extend our record to 4-1 with another home game on Sunday against Goshen.

High School Boys
Coaches Orlando and Pandoliano report that the last two games have been almost " looking like lacrosse."

Pawling beat the Cornwall team 9-to-3 two weeks ago and a week later they came back to tie us at 9-9. Sid Youngs was outstanding with 5 goals and John Foody with 3. Tom McMann chipped in with 1.

In the first game of the season, Millbrook whipped Cornwall 8-1. Saturday they squeaked out an 8-7 victory.

Scorers were Sid Youngs with 3, John Foody with 2 and 1 each for Colin Hines, Ryan O'Flattery and Sam Telesfson.

The coaches report, "The boys should be very proud of themselves. Back in March we were scratching our heads because we could not put two passes together.  Now the stick work is much better and they are learning the game. We still commit too many penalties and many turnovers are for very aggressive play which is a good thing. The hustle is there and look for Cornwall to be a force in the years to come."
