General News: School Budget Approved

A large turnout of voters resulted in the approval of a  $57.4 million 2010-11 budget for the Cornwall Central School District on Tuesday by a margin of 1,772 to 784.  A total of 2,556 votes were counted, not including a small number of absentee ballots.

Harvey Sotland, the assistant superintendent for business in the school district noted that it was the biggest disparity in the last five years, with about 1,000 more people voting 'yes' than 'no.'    Last year, 1, 477 people voted to approve the budget 953 to 524.


Incumbent school board members David Moretto and Melanie Mulroy-Robinson were re-elected to a second term and newcomer Diana McNally was elected to a third seat on the board that was vacated by Brendan Coyne.  The vote tally for the school board seats were:  Melanie Mulroy-Robinson, 1,636; David Moretto, 1,613; Diana McNally, 1,341; Thomas Scileppi, 1,035; Michael Conmy. 753.

A separate proposition about continuing the existing transportation system in the school district was also approved.

Great! Just what we need higher taxes in Cornwall! Go demacraps! When will we ever learn America! The well is dry and we need to start living within our means!
