There was a multi alarm mutual aid fire in a wood structure rental residence at 2055 State Route 94 in Salisbury Mills on Saturday morning, May 11th, that closed down Route # 94 for several hours and gutted several rooms of the home.

A City of Newburgh Police Department Interpreter was called to the scene to translate between emergency personnel and residents.

The Fire Departments knocked the fire down in spite of the fact that water had to be brought to the scene by tanker from the fill site located on Orrs Mills Road. Cornwall and Washingtonville Police Departments rerouted Route # 94 traffic and kept delays to a minimum.

The original fire call was received from the Orange County 911 Emergency Communications Center at or about 8:47am.

Responding Departments and Agencies were as follows:

Fire Departments -
Salisbury Mills (with all equipment),
Washingtonville, and Vails Gate to the scene,
Cornwall (Mountainville) - to water draft site on Orrs Mills Road,
New Windsor and Coldenham - on standby at Salisbury Mills fire Station,
South Blooming Grove - on standby at Mountain Lodge Fire Station.

Emergency Medical -
New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Blooming Grove Volunteer Ambulance Corps - for rehab and injury as needed.

Police Departments -
Cornwall and Washingtonville - traffic control,
Newburgh - Language Interpreter.

Per Salisbury Mills Fire Chief Joe Retcho the blaze gutted three rooms and much of the remainder of the structure sustained smoke and water damage.

No injuries were reported by either residents or emergency personnel.

The rental property owner stated that it was swap day and that residents were both moving in and out of the home at the time of the fire.

The cause is presently under investigation.
