The heavy rains this weekend caused some flooding of the Moodna Creek in Mountainville and led Cornwall-on-Hudson water department head Bob June to close down the wells as a precautionary measure.

Three years ago, heavy flooding in the well fields at a time when the Catskill aqueduct filter plan was not operating led to a boil water advisory for several days. June says that the water department hasn’t experienced any similar problems this year.

The Taylor Road well fields border the Moodna Creek, which, as seen in the top photo, has overflowed its banks. A crew from the water department was on site Monday morning, performing maintenance work on the wells while they were not in operation.
