General News: Stone Arch Bridge Makes National Register

The 72-year-old stone arch bridge on Route 218 near Dock Hill Road in Cornwall-on-Hudson has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Cornwall-on-Hudson Mayor Joseph Gross announced the decision by the director of the National Park Service at the trustees meeting last week.

The mayor was active in the preservation of the 1935 stone bridge when engineers from the state rebuilt the bridge starting two years ago. He also oversaw the application to the National Register.

Congrats on the registry. Just to clarify, the middle picture is of the bridge that had the wall rebuilt a few years back. That work was performed by Hilfiger Masonry. The lower picture is actually the old culvert that crossed under Mountain Rd at the Boulevard. The 218 bridge the state fixed is not actually pictured here
