A crowd of merry revelers rang in the New Year on Thursday night at the annual ball drop from the roof of Storm King Theatre in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

With snow gently falling, the New Year’s Eve entertainment got underway around 11 pm when master of ceremony Chris Colombo greeted the crowd from the stage on the second floor rook of the building. Soon, Elvis impressionario Sebastian Damico danced onto the stage, dressed in a white pants and began belting out tunes to crowd below.

By 11:30 pm, several hundred people had crowded into the village square to greet friends and enjoy the show. Ray Yannone, the owner of the Storm King Theatre who sponsors the ball drop each year, watched the show alone in the crowd, smiling and videotaping it. Ray and his son, Ray, Jr., built the glittery ball that is illuminated with hundreds of light bulbs.

New to the stage this year, comedian Angry Bob made the trip up from New York City to share some jokes with the village crowd. He kept his set short as most in the crowd seemed more interested in dancing with Elvis than listening to Angry Bob’s rantings.

As the clock approached midnight, the crowd in the square swelled and everyone joined together to count down the last thirty seconds of 2009. With the final 10 seconds, the ball began to drop, the crowd cheered and at midnight, kisses and hugs were shared by all as they welcomed 2010.

As the song “Sweet Caroline” wafted over the crowd, friends and neighbors greeted one another and wished them a happy new year before drifting away to their homes, the end of another great New Year’s celebration in Cornwall-on-Hudson.

Comments:

We attended the event and everything was great except for the comedian. He was inappropriate and terrible. For next year, I hope Mr. Yannone considers that many of the people that attend the event are families with children. A comedian like that is not enetrtainment...it is garbage. Wishing everyone a happy and successful 2010!!
