Cornwall residents will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a fleet of 19 traditional Dutch vessels if they go down to the waterfront early Thursday morning.

The boats, which range from a low-slung “skutsje” to fishing boats and barges, will be sailing past Cornwall around 7:30 a.m. The ships are part of a celebration marking the 1609 voyage of Henry Hudson and they are direct descendants of the vessels that sailed the Dutch coast, around Manhattan and up the Hudson River in the 17th century.

The fleet docked on Tuesday in Peekskill where the crews spent an education evening of festivities and international fellowship. The ships will spend Wednesday night at Constitution Island, lifting anchor at 7 a.m. to sail north to Kingston, where they will dock for the night.

Frank Ostrander was in Peekskill on Tuesday, where he took these photos of the ships in the harbor.

Hey Frank!
Thanks for giving folks an opportunity to see the ships, I know I would not be able to make the a.m. float, so thanks for the great shots.

Thanks to Frank, the "photo-laureate" of COH, for another sample of his artistry with the camera.

What a treat! Thanks Frank for the heads-up on the sail. It was awesome.
The commuters on the train got a very pleasant surprise this morning. It was a sight to see from our park. Barbara Gosda

What they said Frank! Great shots. Wouldn't have been able to see them otherwise.
