General News: Local Primaries on Tuesday

September 14, 2009

Tuesday, September 15 is primary day and candidates for both County and local offices are running for their party’s spot in the November elections.

Some Cornwall residents will be able to vote on Tuesday in the Democratic primary for the Orange County Legislature 12th District candidate. Former Cornwall supervisor Richard Randazzo will be on the ballot, along with Robert Fromaget, a retired IBM executive from Blooming Grove. The winner of the primary will face Republican Kevin Hines in November to fill the seat being vacated by long-term Republican legislator Alan Seidman who is retiring.

Voters will be able to cast their ballots at three Cornwall polling places: the Cornwall-on-Hudson village hall, the Landmark Apts. community room, and he Mountainville fire house.

The race for the Democratic spot for the Orange County Legislature’s 4th District, which covers the city of Newburgh, is crowded and voters there will be able to choose from three candidates: activist Omari Shakur, Hillary Rayford, a teacher, and Harvey Burger, the incumbant legislator who is fighting to retain his seat in the legislature. In November, Tuesday’s winner will face Republican Kevin Barrett and third-party candidates Aquanetta Wright and Damon Finch.

Also in Newburgh, five Democratic candidates for City Council will be on the ballot: Salvatore Cracolici, Regina Angelo, Curle Dillard, Mary Ann Dickinson (incumbent) and Karen Mejia.

In New Windsor, Town Justice candidates Richard Thorpe and David Zagon will face off for the Democratic, Independent and Conservative party spots.
