General News: Senate Resolution to Honor Village Chief

August 27, 2009

Cornwall-on-Hudson police chief Charles Williams is being recognized by a resolution in front of the New York State Senate.  The resolution, which was introduced by state senator Bill Larkin, who lives in the village, states “Charlies Williams always displayed  extraordinary  wisdom  and  guidance  as well as unparalleled professionalism, all of which will be greatly missed by the  members  of the Cornwall-on-Hudson Police Department but never forgotten.”

Larkin says that he introduced the measure to honor Williams, who will be retiring on September 16, because he has done a great job and is well-respected. “He has a clear understanding of the problems of local government,” Larkin said, “and he wants to be part of the solution.”

Chief Williams says that he was taken by surprise by the resolution, which will be voted on by the Senate on September 10th. “ I always tried to do what was best,”  Williams said. “It was very gracious of Larkin on his part and I am honored.”
