General News: More All-Star Wins for Cornwall

NEW:  The Major All-Star team defeated the town of Newburgh on Friday, 14-7, and will play again on Monday, July 13, at 5:30 p.m. against Washingtonville at a location to be determined.

The Cornwall Little League Senior All-Star baseball team won its game Thursday against Pine Bush by a final score of 5-4.

Cornwall scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on to win at Goshen. Deven Bruce had two hits, including a two-run triple, and scored Cornwall's winning run on an RBI single by Kyle Halvorsen.   R.J. Berger pitched 6-2/3 innings for the win. Brien Schweizer recorded the final out for the save for Cornwall, which plays Montgomery or Port Jervis at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Goshen.

The softball teams were victorious on Thursday as well.  The Major All-Star softball team won against Wallkill Area in a 2-1 victory.  Marlena Marzigliano struck out nine and allowed three hits. Brittany Malloy retired the last two batters for the save and had a hit and run scored at the plate. Jackie Galati also had a hit and run scored.  Cornwall will play either Wallkill, Montgomery or Florida at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Walden.

Emily Casey pitched a two-hitter for a 10-0 win over the town of Wallkill in the Senior All-Star softball game.  Alyssa Quartuccio had two doubles, a single and six RBI to lead Cornwall to a victory at Town of Newburgh. Caroline Staudle had three singles and scored three runs for Cornwall and Megan Staudle drove in two runs for Cornwall.

The game ended after six innings because of the 10-run rule.  Cornwall will face a team to be determined at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Pine Bush.

The Junior All-Star baseball team was eliminated following an 11-8 defeat by Goshen.
