The Fourth of July celebration got off to a great start this year with the annual Pet Show sponsored by the Catholic Daughters of America at Cornwall Town Park.

Parents helped their young children put the final touches on their pets’ costumes as they anxiously awaited their chance to enter the ring and strut their stuff.  Only children were allowed to parade their pets before the judges, who included town supervisor Kevin Quigley and village mayor Joseph Gross, along with other local dignitaries.

Master of Ceremonies Sorveig Barton had her hands full trying to maintain order and keep the parade of pets moving through the judges circle.  Prizes were awarded in categories including “shortest tail,”  “best overall pattern,” and “most resembles owner.”

Competition was the stiffest for dogs, who were divided into small, medium and large size categories.  Cats followed, then an array of small animals, rodents, and birds.
