The 2nd Annual Greater Cornwall Art Walk kicked off on Saturday with a reception on the grounds of the Sands-Ring Historic Homestead.

Despite a blustery start, when a gust of wind blew down a side of the tent, knocking artwork to the ground and sending organizers scrambling to re-assemble the tent and the display, the event attracted dozens of visitors who wanted to check out the artwork on display.  Throughout the town and village, businesses put up multi-colored wind mills, a sign that inside the shops visitors would find a special art display.

At the reception, organizers presented an award to Grace Beil, who won first place for her coloring of a print of Henry Hudson’s ship the Half Moon.  More than 200 children submitted work this year to the coloring contest and it was all on display on the porch of Sands Ring.

Inside the historic homestead volunteers gave guided tours of the house to visitors, including a surprise group of descendants of the Sands family who were in town for a reunion.  Pat O’Dwyer, who is the Democratic candidate for Orange County Executive, stopped by as well and she was given a personal tour of Cornwall’s historic home.

The Art Walk continues in 30 local businesses through June 16.  (Click here for details)

First Place:  Grace Beil
Second Place:  Mia Reed
Third Place:  Kerry Welch

Honorable Mentions:  Madison Bauer, Tabitha McGreen, Brittany Morasse,  Nick Pastore, Miriam Pearman, Michael Rosario and Bridget Wickicer.
