Former Cornwall-on-Hudson mayor Ed Moulton has a painting on display at Painter’s restaurant in the village that depicts how the Hudson Highlands may have looked 400 years ago.

Moulton says that he got the inspiration for the painting when he looked out his window at the Hudson River with Mount Beacon beyond and realized that the geographic marked were little changed since Henry Hudson sailed past them in 1609.

“The spines of the hills were the same,” he said in a recent interview, “you just have to take out the modern buildings and roads.”

Moulton has painted on and off most of his life and says he even considered a career in advertising art.  Instead he went into the armed services where he occasionally got a chance to paint.  Now that he is retired, he has studio where he can paint whenever he gets inspired.

His recent painting features Henry Hudson’s Half Moon ship in the foreground.  If you look closely at the painting, which is hanging in the reception area of the Painter’s, you will see the captain and two shipmates on board.

Comments:

Nice painting of what my view used to be Ed. If you painted the same view on a mural on the front of your house, maybe no one would notice how bad you violated the view preservation law.

Great Job ED!!!

Too bad personal comments have to overshadow your fine work.
