General News: Signs Welcome Folks to the Village

The new sign welcomes people coming

People driving into the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson now have a clear indicator of when they cross the line from the town of Cornwall.

Last week, the village put up new signs welcoming people into the village of Cornwall-on-Hudson on Hudson Street and at the end of Bayview Street.  The reverse side of the signs, visible when you leave the village, invite people to return with the simple words “Come Again.”

The wooden signs were modeled on a similar one that hung at the end of Bayview Avenue that was so worn and weathered that pieces of wood were falling out of it.  Village trustee Barbara Gosda says that her husband, Bob, built the new ones based on the recommendations of the Village Square Improvement Committee, of which she is the chair.   A neighbor of the Gosdas, Jennifer Timmerman, who is an artist, hand lettered the words “Village of Cornwall on Hudson.  Est. 1764.   Inc. 1884.”

Trustee Gosda says she is trying to find a location for a third sign and would like to put it on Academy Avenue, a move that would require approval from the state highway department.

Comments:

The sign is beautiful, welcoming and friendly.
Thank you for adding to the charm of the village.

I think that it's worth noting that the original Bayview Ave. sign had its parting message added by Chic Sciple-Cooper, and I'm glad to see the idea carried through to the present signage.
