General News: The Crucible To Be Presented at CCHS

October 20, 2011

From the Cornwall High School Drama Club

Cornwall Central High School’s Drama Club is proud to kick-off the 2011-2012 school year with their production of "The Crucible", directed by Rich Aufiero, and featuring 22 of Cornwall Central High School’s finest student-actors. This great American classic, written by Arthur Miller, will be presented November 10 and 12 at Cornwall Central High School.

“The Crucible” premiered in New York in 1953, at a time when anti-communist suspicion in the United States was rampant. It examines the fevered persecution of suspected witches in 17th-century Salem, Massachusetts. Miller combines fear and ignorance to create a perfect evil, an issue as prevalent today as it was in 1692. Critically acclaimed as a bold criticism of McCarthyism and confronting themes of mass hysteria, irrational fear and political persecution, it won the Tony Award for Best Play.

Ably assisting Aufiero are Sarah Goldfrank-Cariot and Grace Amnott, Student Stage Managers; Tony Ravinsky, Set Designer; Corinne Aufiero, Assistant Director; Meaghan Doulin, Stage Manager; Nancy Brennan, producer; and Karen Eremin, Costume Designer.

Performance times are 7pm on Thursday, November 10, and 2pm and 7pm on Saturday, November 12. Tickets are $5.00 for seniors and students, and $7.00 for general admission.

Cornwall Central High School is located at 10 Dragon Drive in New Windsor. For directions, please visit the school’s website (www.cornwallschools.com/highschool.cfm). For more information, please phone 845-534-4166.
