General News: Cornwall United Soccer Team Results

September 25, 2007

The Cornwall United soccer team played their third weekend of matches. Here are the results.

U9 GIRLS
Cornwall United’s U9 girls continued their dominant play this season by beating the Orange County Tigers 6-0. Cornwall maintained possession of the ball for 90% of the game by playing great defense, spreading the field, and passing the ball around.

Goals were scored by Olivia Davet on a penalty kick, Monika Morasse from an assist by Taylor Filippone, and Taylor Filippone with an assist from Briana Wallace. Additional, unassisted goals were scored by Kelsey Burns, Erin Briggs, and Kate Gleason.

U10 GIRLS
The U10 Cheetahs came away with a very hard fought 2- 2 tie against the Yorktown Shooting Stars. Jillian Decker and Lauren Pinkham set up the Cheetahs scores with an assist each. Lilian Poling and Sam Nelbach capitalized on their excellent passes with a goal apiece.

Emma Sabini and Leanne Casey were outstanding as goalkeepers saving several shots on goal. Maddie Lander, Kaitlyn Preiss, Jessica Dwyer and Jillian Larson lead the defensive efforts. Giovanna Fichera, Katarina VanLedtje and Micah Wojehowski were big contributors offensively with their aggressiveness pushing the ball up field.

U12 GIRLS- DRAGON CLAWS
The Dragon Claws improved to 2-1 with a decisive 5 to 1 victory over the Orange County Express on Sunday. Practice and dedication have led the team in becoming a well-balanced and respected offensive unit. Co-captain Samantha Fowler scored her first two goals of the season while Ilana Lagrutta, Judy Dianis and Jacqueline Hogan chipped in with their first goals.

To date, nine different team members have scored a least one goal with equally as many providing the invaluable assists. On defense Alex Steinman and Olivia Tellefsen have proven to be a tough combination against opposing strikers, while feeding the ball to the midfielders with their powerful kicks. It has been a terrific start to the season.

U12 GIRLS DRAGONFIRE-
Dragonfire finished 4-1 against Yorktown Revolution. Yorktown struck first with an early goal. Dragonfire took a while to settle in the first half until Amanda Gallardo stripped the ball from the sideline, centered it and sent it into the mix. Kamryn Brown received the ball off the defense and scored the tying goal for Cornwall.

They went ahead 2-1 at the half on a goal by Caroline Staudle assisted by Kamryn Brown. Megan Gagnon persisted in pushing the ball through Yorktown sending the ball to Lexci Modlinski for Cornwall’s third goal. Defense stayed tight and Alex Jurgens thwarted any late attempts at scoring by Yorktown. Cathy Eliasson made seven saves and firmly bodied up in goal on a long goal attempt at the end of the game. Lexci Modlinski assisted the final goal of the game by Hailey Lindenberger.

U14 GIRLS SABRES-
The Sabres came from behind to tie their archrivals, the Yorktown Dynamite,1-1. Carly Tice scored off of a rebound late in the first half. Kayla Brewer continued her impressive play at sweeper as she thwarted many of Yorktown’s scoring opportunities.

Kaitlyn Raynors strong play at fullback, with her field changing kicks, provided the Sabres with second half scoring chances.
