General News: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Sand

Many homeowners in Cornwall-on-Hudson who started their spring clean-ups this past weekend noticed a layer of fine glass pieces along the street curb, and the topic made it to the board of trustees at its monthly meeting on Monday night.
Trustee Bill Fogarty, who was one of the homeowners who noticed the sparkly material said jokingly, “It looks pretty at night, but not on my rug.”
It turns out that the shards were part of a mixture of recycled glass, concrete, and blacktop that had been applied after two snowstorms in December.
Dave Halvorsen, the head of the Department of Public Works, said the recycled product was pioneered by Andrew Argenio at Hudson Valley Recycling and that it cost about $4 less a ton than regular sand. The material worked well, Halvorsen said, but he was unable to get it re-supplied.
At Monday’s meeting, Mayor Gross said that he was told by Argenio that the recycled particles are not a hazard and Halvorsen said that once the sweeper was put in operation, the DPW would be picking it up.

I noticed on the streets behind the Library. My first thought was , wow looks like someone smashed a car window. I'm used to seeing broken glass when I lived in Jersey City!
