Joseph Gross was re-elected to a second term as mayor of Cornwall-on-Hudson in the village election on Wednesday.  He defeated his opponent, retired attorney Peter Neuman, by a vote of 470 to 369.

In the five-way race for two trustee seats, incumbent Mark Edsall and Douglas Vatter emerged victorious, with 456 and 337 votes respectively.    The remaining votes were split among three candidates, with Andrew Argenio getting 261 votes, James Kane receiving 212 votes Maryanne O’Dell Rose with 187.

A total of 839 voters cast their ballots in the election, compared to 827 who voted in the mayor’s race two years ago when Joseph Gross defeated longtime Cornwall-on-Hudson mayor Ed Moulton by capturing 65% of the vote.  This year Mayor Gross received 56% of the votes cast.

About two dozen people had gathered at village hall to witness the vote count, including trustee candidates Vatter, Rose ‘Odell and Argenio.  Mayor Gross entered the room shortly after the results were announced and walked around the room, shaking hands with his supporters, and congratulated newly-elected trustee Vatter.

Mayor Gross told News from Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson that he is gratified that people recognized the effort he has put into the job for the past two years.  “I feel that I did the right things,”  he said.  “I did what was right for the village even if it made some people mad.”

One of his supporters who came to the vote count, Judy Wilson, said the village is blessed to have someone like Joe who is giving 80 hours a week to the village and noted that he has initiated a lot of very good programs during his first term.

Reached by phone at home, Peter Neuman said he had a good time campaigning for mayor.  “I wish Joe the best,”  he said.

Comments:

Congratulations Joe. Your hard work over the last two years has been rewarded. Keep up the good work and thank you.

what? PXN was not at the village hall for the results?!?!? So, did he really not care? did he already know that he was losing? that's just weird.
