General News: Cornwall United Soccer Team Results

September 20, 2007

U9 GIRLS-
Cornwall United’s U9 girls made it two in a row by beating the Cheetahs from Carmel 4-1.

Sam Incognoli scored first on a great assist from Erin Briggs.  Olivia Davet added to the lead by displaying great footwork to avoid a defender and shot it cleanly into the lower left corner.  Erin Briggs extended the lead by taking the ball from a defender and putting it into goal.  Hannah Cast put the final nail in Carmel’s coffin by scoring on a strong assist by Morgan VanLedtje.

Amelia Harding played tremendous defense, feeding the offensive line several times throughout the game.  Kelsey Burns helped the offense throughout the game with some far-reaching throw-ins.

U10 GIRLS-
The U10 Cheetahs are sporting a two game winning streak after beating the Highland Heat 5 – 0 this past Sunday.

The combined goalie play of Sam Nelbach, Lilian Poling and Leanne Casey held the hard charging Heat scoreless. Giovanna Fichera (2), Micah Wojehowski, Lauren Pinkham and Poling accounted for the Cheetahs’ scores. Jillian Decker set up one of the goals with a perfect pass to center right in front of the goal.

Jessica Dwyer, Jillian Larson, Maddie Lander, Kaitlyn Preiss, Katarina VanLedtje and Emma Sabini played skillfully in several positions. Ava Carter battled through a tough injury contributing big defensively.

U12 GIRLS-DRAGONCLAWS-
The Lady Dragon Claws made a strong statement against a very powerful and bigger Minisink Miracles in their first home game of the season.

Despite allowing a very quick, eye-opening first goal, the girls played an incredible defensive battle. As the game played on, it was evident that the girls' focus and conditioning paid off, producing many offensive scoring situations, while keeping the Miracles' breaks in check and balancing the playing field. It wasn't until deep into the 2nd half that the Miracles scored their second and final goal of the game.

Despite the loss, the Dragon Claws have a lot to be proud of.  Keeper Becky Baumel saved 15 shots in goal. Sweeper Samantha Fowler and stopper Olivia Tellefsen anchored the defense, while frustrating the Miracles in their offensive onslaught. Midfielders Victoria Colotti and Fiona Durkin gained the admiration of the fans and opposing team with their relentless pressure and speed.

U12 GIRLS-DRAGONFIRE
U12 Dragonfire takes on Yorktown Spirit and wins 3-1

Both teams displayed great effort and momentum this weekend in Cornwall.  Dragonfire was scoreless going into the second half.  Lexci Modlinski, Jillian Artrip, Hailey Lindenberger and Laura Craig filled in the gaps on offense keeping the ball in scoring position.  Caroline Staudle sunk the first goal followed by Kelly Gleason’s goal from Megan Gagnon’s chip that bounced off the defense.  Yorktown scored with about eight minutes left motivating Dragonfire’s defense. Erin Hussey, Alex Jurgens and Amanda Gallardo helped shut down Yorktown the remainder of the game.  Cathy Eliasson made five saves per half and Caroline Staudle scored the final goal at the whistle.

U14 GIRLS-SABRES
The Sabres out scored the Cortlandt Vipers 3-0.

Gabby Chamberland played terrific in goal and recorded her first shut out of the season. Carly Tice scored all three goals for the Sabres with assists from Alejandra Cordero, Ally LaGrutta and Celina Carrero.  Andrea Mancuso and Victoria Dewsnaps strong play led to many scoring opportunities. The Sabres improved their record to 1-0-1.
