Kevin Quigley won Tuesday's Republican primary in the race to be the next Cornwall town supervisor by a margin of 2-to-1 over his opponent, Helen Bunt. The final vote was 453 votes for Quigley and 223 votes for Bunt.
Quigley said that he thought that a phone bank mounted by his supporters made the difference in the turnout of his supporters. "I had good support around me," Quigley said immediately after Cornwall deputy mayor Mary Beth Krafft Green tallied the final district votes. "Everyone working hard made the difference."
Quigley noted that the campaign was "one of the more docile" he has seen. "There was no negativism with my opponent," he said, noting that he has "known her all my life."
In the race for two seats on the Republican committee, John Hussey and Thomas Kreider won with 17 and 14 votes respectively. James Wiley received 12 votes.
Kevin Quigley will appear on the Novmeber ballot as the Republican and Conservative parties candidate. The Democratic party is not fielding any candidates although candidates may mount a write-in campaign.
