General News: Man Tied to Officer's Death Re-Arrested

Twenty years after Cornwall police office Machuca was killed in the line of duty, the man who caused the fatal accident is back in jail on a felony charge of aggravated DWI.
Willie Thompson, 72, of Newburgh, was picked up Sunday night in a parking lot in Newburgh after he ran into several cars. Police say Thompson’s blood alcohol level was .24. The legal limit is .08.
Following the death of Officer Machuca on February 10, 1989, Thompson was found guilty of vehicular homicide and sentenced to 7-14 years. He was arrested again for DWI in 2005.
Cornwall police chief Todd Hazard noted the arrest of Thompson saying, “The Town of Cornwall Police Department is deeply saddened by the fact that Willie Thompson has made a career out of drinking and driving; and nothing outside of incarceration is going to stop him.”
On the 20th anniversary of Machuca’s death last month, Cornwall and Cornwall-on-Hudson officers held a memorial service for him. (see story here.)

I hope the editor will keep the people of Cornwall apprised to the court date, (and eventual sentenicing date), for this murderer. I, (and I hope others of the town), will write letters to the judge and be present at sentencing.
How is it that he was senteniced to 7 - 14 years, served less than ten only to again get a DUI in 2005 without being sent back to jail to complete his original senetance? Isn't that what parole offenders get?
This criminal needs to be locked up for good....no excuses!
