General News: Four Republican Candidates in Primary
September 11, 2006
In Cornwall-on-Hudson, when Republicans vote in the September 12 primary, the ballot will include two candidates for U.S. Senate, KT McFarland and John Spencer, and two candidates for county sheriff.
Senate Race
Spencer, a former mayor of Yonkers, calls himself the “true conservative,” and also has the endorsement of the state Conservative Party. McFarland, of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, was one of the highest-ranked women in the Pentagon in the 1970s before joining the administration of President Ronald Reagan. The winner in the primary is expected to face incumbent Democratic senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the November general election.
County Sheriff Race
Republicans also can choose between two men in the Orange County Sheriff race. Thomas J. Carton, a retired New York City police sergeant from Monroe, is challenging incumbent Sheriff Carl E. DuBois. Dubois, who was first elected in 2002, has the endorsement of the Orange County Republican party.
