General News: Notes from the School Board Meeting

January 29, 2009

*** Many students may remember the problematic lockers on the D and E wings of the Cornwall middle school. Several years ago students petitioned the school board to fix the lockers and now it finally has approved the replacement of the lockers currently used by fifth and sixth graders. The cost to the district for the replacement is $69,460, which was approved last year in the budget. The school board also approved hiring a contractor with a bid of $137,890 to replace ceiling and lights in the building core and clear story panels in the gymnasium of the 53-year old school.

*** Parents may welcome a change to next year’s school calendar that was approved at the school board meeting on Monday evening. Board member Barbara Manzari proposed moving superintendent’s days, when the schools are closed, to a Monday or Friday to make it more convenient for parents to schedule their children’s care. The first time parents will see the change will be in February 2010.

Comments:

Great! Now the teachers can assign meaningful and challenging independent study assignments for those long three day weekends.

glad to have some news about what the school board is doing. I must have missed the coverage in the Local.
