The town of Cornwall is receiving a $10,000 community development grant that will be used to study what can be done to improve the town’s business district.

Last June, Cornwall supervisor Kevin Quigley met with Bob Dewit, then-president of the Greater Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, to talk about parking and appearance issues along Main Street. Dewit had earlier appeared before the town board asking for help in fixing up downtown. Town building code enforcer Gary Vinson also told the town board that he was systematically reviewing code compliancy in all the buildings in the business district.

On Tuesday, supervisor Quigley said in a phone interview that a consultant will be asked to look at giving Main Street a facelift. Adding a new parking area on Clinton Street and asking to change traffic flow on the county road are areas that Quigley thinks are worth exploring.
