From the Cornwall Community Cooperative

The Cornwall Community Co-op has signed up 90 members in the past month and is offering an array of tasty local foods in its December Buying Club, which is open to members of the co-op.

People are invited to become founding members of the Cornwall Community Co-op through January 31, 2009.  Founding members will receive a special gift tote bag and will be invited to participate in an annual event at the co-op.    All members will also own shares in the co-op and will be able to vote on co-op policies and direction.

Stella Quinn, who is the coordinator of the co-op, says she is optimistic about the group’s progress.   "The response to our membership drive has been very encouraging.  We just need 10 more households to join as founding members and we'll reach our first membership goal,” she said.  “We’re hoping that new members will spread the word this holiday season."

The co-op steering committee is moving ahead with plans to open a co-op market in mid-2009 that will be open to the public and that will sell fresh, sustainable local produce and goods.  Members will receive a discount on many items and are encouraged to volunteer at the co-op to get even more benefits.

Orders are being taken now for the December Local Foods Buying Club, which is offering organic pork from Stone Creek Farm,  Barat goat cheese from Sprout Creek Farm,  salad greens, egg nog,  cider, and multi-grain bread.  In addition, members may order handmade holiday centerpieces and bouquets from the Rainy Day Nursery at C. Rowe and Sons farm in Maybrook, NY.

To find out how you can become a member or to place an order for the Buying Club, visit the Co-op’s website at www.CornwallFoodCoop.com.
