General News: Three Swimmers Rescued from Hudson
August 30, 2007
An unidentified person rescued three people from the Hudson River Wednesday evening when they got separated from their boat.
Cornwall-on-Hudson police officer John Antinori was on routine patrol around 7 p.m. when a woman flagged him down at Donahue Memorial Park. The woman was calling 911 to get help for the three people yelling from the river.
According to the police, one of the passengers in the boat, a woman, went into the Hudson first and drifted away. The two other passengers went to save her and they, too, were unable to beat the current and return to the boat. That’s when they started yelling.
While Officer Antinori was calling for assistance, another boater, whom police will not identify, came to the assistance of the trio, who all returned safely to their boat and left the area.
